Fitness for dumbbells

Like the idea of getting fit, but too cheap and lazy to go to a gym? Nike+ Training Club app might be for you

If one yoga mat and a few dumbbells is about as far as you'd like to go to invest in your fitness welfare, then this newly updated version of Nike+ Training Club will not only help you save money, but time as well. You won't have to hunt for content on YouTube or anywhere else anymore with this free all-in-one trainer that designs workouts to fit with your schedule. The app also dishes out inspiration from the world's best athletes, tracks your progress and helps you keep connected with other gym crawlers so you can work towards your goals together.

There's a long list of available workouts to choose from, each categorised under the sort of goal you'd like to achieve between getting lean, strong, toned or targeting a specific body part. There are serious cardio workouts that will eat into 45 minutes, but there's also less-intimidating and more-likely-to-happen tasks that take up only 30 seconds. Even the biggest of gym-dummies and lazy-bums will have a hard time making excuses, as the app offers well-lit videos, still references and simple, yet clear instructions on how to do everything, as well as a soothing voice that will keep you on track while you're doing the exercises. Training programmes (only one click away) will tell you exactly what to do on different days of the week so you don't even have to plan anything yourself.

While you're at it, the app will record all your progress, which goes on to unlock two-dimensional representations of achievements like any other freemium game. Hey, at least you've been moving around in real life to get that badge right? The attractive but easy-to-use interface easily links to other functions such as sharing on Facebook and Twitter. It links to your music too so you can gain access to it without having to quit the app.

The community aspect is one of the main focus points, as it is believed that the more encouragement and sharing, the more we're likely to get active. The Sportsfeed may look a little bit like Instagram overdosed on protein shakes, but here, you can follow popular athletes and their workout tips and how-tos.

Fun and convenient, this is a must-have for those who don't want to spend cash on a gym. The only downside is downloading each workout takes forever, so download all of them in one go so you can just open and get started immediately the next time you work out.

Nike+ Training Club is available for free both in the iOS and Android app stores.
